Our favorite Russian feminist punk trio, Pussy Riot, were sentenced to two years in prison for peacefully protesting Putin’s anti-secularism today. While I do find it amusing that someone actually got thrown in jail for “hooliganism” (solidifying the belief that Russia is comprised of several old white men who want you to stay as far away from their porch as possible), Russia has sparked quite the wildfire in the worldwide music industry.
Just to name a few, some artists who made statements supporting our rioteers and condemning Russia’s actions include The Black Keys, Franz Ferdinand, Madonna, and the Scissor Sisters. Hundreds of entertainers have made statements around the globe.
Shouts to any fans in Russia - I know what it’s like to miss out on music because your government pisses off musicians; I’m from Arizona.
Click the link for a Washington Post OpEd about the incident, visit the Foreign Connection Facebook to weigh in on the situation, and send the word along to your followers who need to know!
That’s right; once we hit 25 followers (or 100 “Likes” on Facebook) we’ll introduce a new web feature called:
“TFC’s SONG OF THE DAY”
And believe it or not,
and I know this may sound crazy,
that feature will include…
a different song
What more could someone want with their life?!
Anyway, what this means is that if you reblog this post - or create your own to help promote the great TFC blog - you will be added to our unofficial list of…
MOST AWESOMEST PEEPS IN DA HOOD
A great honor indeed.
So get crackin’
